The Lions' Fir Park hoodoo continued as the Steelmen ran riot in North Lanarkshire

A sensational Sam Nicholson strike and a Theo Bair double helped Motherwell boost their bid to finish seventh in the Premiership - and relegated Livingston in the process.

For Motherwell, the win leaves them just two points behind seventh place Hibs in the battle to finish best of the bottom six, heading into the final three games of the campaign. Four minutes later, Livi star Bruce Anderson got in behind Paul McGinn and raced in on goal, only for the Motherwell defender to make up his ground and deflect the striker's effort behind for a corner, which came to nothing.

In 31 minutes Livingston thought they had equalised when Scott Pittman superbly headed home from Daniel Mackay's cross, but it was pulled back for a foul in the build-up and the visiting supporters quickly fell silent. Nicholson almost doubled his tally for the day when Gent whipped in a tantalising delivery across the face of goal, but when the striker came sliding in at the back post it just evaded him and the Lions beathed a sigh of relief.
