Reigning MotoGP world champion Jorge Martín was involved in a serious crash during the Sepang MotoGP test on Wednesday, leading to his hospitalization. The Spaniard crashed at turn 2, sustaining injuries to his left foot and right hand.

Reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Martín experienced a serious crash just two hours into the Sepang MotoGP test on Wednesday, prompting medical personnel to transport him to a nearby hospital. Around ten minutes to twelve in Malaysia, the Spaniard was approaching the entrance to Sepang 's second corner, a tight left-hand turn, when his Aprilia RS-GP ejected him violently. He was sent spinning in the air horizontally before crashing onto the tarmac.

Video footage shows him making hard contact with the ground, specifically his head. Martin was initially taken to the circuit's medical center, where he underwent preliminary examinations. He remained conscious throughout the ordeal but complained of intense pain in his left foot and right hand. Following the initial assessment, doctors opted to transfer him by ambulance to the Aurelius hospital in Nilai, a town six kilometers from the circuit. At the time of the accident, Martin had only completed five timed laps and was last on the timing sheets. This incident marked Martin's second crash of the day. Earlier, the former Pramac Ducati rider crashed shortly after the session's start at Turn 1, but he managed to return to the garage without significant issues and swap to a second RS-GP. Having clinched the world championship last season, becoming the first rider to win a premier class title with an independent team since Valentino Rossi's era, Martin is now spearheading Aprilia's factory MotoGP program. He sampled the RS-GP for the first time in Barcelona in November, and the Sepang test was only his second outing with the bike. Meanwhile, Trackhouse's Raul Fernandez also suffered a crash during the morning session. A statement released by the team reported that 'Raul has suffered a fractured metacarpal bone in his left hand. We are currently evaluating further treatment.' The extent of Martin's injuries will determine whether he can return to the track in Sepang over the next two days. It's important to note that the MotoGP paddock is scheduled to travel to Thailand on Friday for the championship's launch event in Bangkok on Sunday. Subsequently, the riders will head to Buriram to conclude the preseason with the final two days of testing (February 12 and 13)
