Get ready for the first official MotoGP pre-season test of 2025 in Malaysia! The entire grid will be back on track, with Ducati looking to maintain its dominance, Yamaha unveiling its new V4 engine, and exciting rider swaps adding to the anticipation.

MotoGP track action is set to roar back to life in 2025 as the first official pre-season test takes place in Malaysia from March 5-7. While a select group of test riders, rookies, and concession riders have already been testing at Sepang during the shakedown, the entire 2025 grid will converge in Malaysia this week for their first collective outing since November 19th.

This pre-season promises to be a thrilling one, brimming with anticipation for high-profile rider swaps, the arrival of three fresh faces, and the teams' relentless pursuit of closing the gap on Ducati's dominant performance. On this week's Crash MotoGP Podcast, hosted by Jordan Moreland, the team delves into what we can expect to witness at the test. Ducati has certainly made a statement at the shakedown, but Crash Senior Journalist Lewis Duncan anticipates that the Italian manufacturer won't unveil any radical aerodynamic overhauls just yet. 'Gigi always has something up his sleeve,' Duncan remarked, 'and I would imagine it will be Buriram before we see any radical changes to the fairing.' He further explained that Ducati typically rolls out major updates during the final test, leaving teams with limited time to adjust if needed. There will be a significant focus on the Ducati garage as fans eagerly await any new developments. We know that the new chassis they tested during the shakedown was a positive step forward. 'So, assume you throw that onto the package that they had and then bits of refining,' Duncan noted. 'Ducati is going to be a hard one to beat.' Duncan believes that the aerodynamic tweaks seen during the shakedown were merely a taste of what's to come. 'I don't think that will be the new aero package that Dall'Igna has teased,' he stated. 'We know Ducati has been quite radical over the years with their changes with various items, because in theory this is the last time they can do it.' He predicts that this will likely be the last major aerodynamic update before even stricter regulations are implemented in 2027. Duncan speculates that for the final update of the current aerodynamic era, Gigi Dall'Igna has something truly special in store. Yamaha's progress this winter will be closely watched, but Crash MotoGP Editor Peter McLaren assures us that we won't see their V4 engine on track this week. 'We've heard they're developing it, so we want to know when it's going to be on the race track,' McLaren said. The Yamaha launch on the eve of the shakedown's first day only saw Dovizioso riding two Yamaha test bikes that closely resembled the current inline-four-powered bikes. McLaren explains that a V4 would be visually and audibly distinct. He adds that Yamaha's transparency about the V4's development is reassuring
