Jose Mourinho highlights Tottenham's dominant victory over Manchester United in 2020 as a career highlight, while subtly criticizing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's management.
Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has insisted that his Tottenham team's 6-1 victory over the Reds in October 2020 is one of his perfect matches from his managerial career. Mourinho took his Spurs side to Old Trafford during the Covid lockdown, and while things started brightly for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 's Reds, who led after two minutes through Bruno Fernandes, they soon went downhill.
By the seventh minute, Tottenham were ahead; by half-time it was 4-1, and at the end, Serge Aurier and Harry Kane had added to the tally to complete the rout. An overjoyed Mourinho at the time chose to focus on his own team, expressing: 'To win 6-1 against Manchester United at Old Trafford is an honour for all of us, considering the dimension of Manchester United and Old Trafford. I told the players in the last couple of days 1000 times a good result at Old Trafford is to win. 'Of course, if you draw, it's not a bad result but that's the kind of mentality we must get. It was a great performance, a great result.' Mourinho's career is now drawing towards its conclusion, and, as such, the current Fenerbahce manager is being asked to reflect on what he has achieved. When asked for what he considered to be his perfect matches that he has managed, Mourinho chose to focus on that game with Tottenham and took a swipe at Solskjaer's management of the team in the process. 'Manchester United vs Tottenham, 1-6, and it could have been seven, eight, nine,' the Portuguese told Corriere dello Sport. Despite this humbling, Solskjaer would keep his job for more than a year after the result, eventually succumbing to the sack in November 2021 after a defeat at Watford
