Chris Webb has reflected on his first 50 days in office

MPs including Blackpool ’s Chris Webb are reflecting on their first 50 days in office following Labour’s victory at the July 4 General Election. Mr Webb, who retained the Blackpool South seat for Labour after winning it at a by-election just two months earlier, said he had ‘hit the ground running’ since being elected.

He said: “I’ve raised questions in Parliament on the rise of knife crime and violence against women and girls, made speeches on new legislation and had meetings on local, regional, national and global issues. There have been visits made to many local organisations across Blackpool South, and I have attended local events, and engaged with the community during surgeries and open forum events.

“I’ve joined the police on walkabouts and a special task force operation, joined doctors on the frontline in A&E, joined posties on their daily rounds, and had meetings with other organisations on pressing matters for our local community. Myself and my team have dealt with over 1,100 constituents cases – helping with problems from housing, to health and everything in between. It’s been an absolute privilege to serve Blackpool South for the past 50 days.

On Tuesday, August 20, Mr Webb was invited to cut the ribbon of the new Layton Hidden Garden behind the library. He said: “I was honoured to be asked to cut the ribbon to officially open the fantastic new green space and community garden alongside families from the local community. It was a special moment for me – I grew up in Layton, visiting this library, and my parents still live there now. It’s great to see that the community continues to thrive.
