During a preliminary hearing Monday, Detective Alexis Kinzer testified LeFlore High School surveillance video shows a 16-year-old female student firing one shot
by Andrea RameyMPD: LeFlore HS shooting suspect pointed gun at victim’s head as he crawled in hallway that grazed her target's hip and hit another boy in the torso in a hallway on January 30th, 2024. Both victims survived. Kinzer says as the boy she intended to shoot crawled away, the suspect kicked his feet out from under him, racked the slide of the gun and pointed it at his head. The girl's attorney, Christine Hernandez, says the suspect was also a victim.
"Certainly, there's no reason at all for a student or anyone else to bring a gun into a school and shoot it. So no matter what the defense is, it's inexcusable that someone would take a gun into a school in order to hurt people," said Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood. "It's been reported to the school. The school is taking no action. This isn't the only female student that this is happening to, and there's a group of students there that are basically running that school," said Hernandez.
A spokesperson for the school system says they do not have any reports of the suspect being bullied or assaulted. The spokesperson says schools have a bullying prevention system in place and they take bullying seriously.
