A Lanarkshire MSP is warning of an “NHS winter timebomb” after latest emergency department figures showed the number of local patients facing waiting times ranging from four to more than 12 hours has soared since last summer.

Noting the likely impact of cold weather and the flu season later in the year, she said: “With waiting times rising over the summer months, how will our NHS cope when attendances rise and pressure increases in the winter months ahead?
