Julie Louden lost her beloved Westiepoo, Monty, during the blaze on June 3.

A devastated dog owner has called for tighter safety regulations at Scots kennels after her pet was killed in a tragic fire.

Julie told the Record: "It was devastating. I was in disbelief and I don't think I took it in for a while. It was traumatic for us all and we soon all got in touch with one another to band together. While it is currently unknown how the fire started, police ruled that the blaze, which is thought to have killed five other dogs, was not suspicious. Julie has since been channeling the trauma of losing Monty into ensuring no other owners go through the same ordeal.

"I want early detection fire equipment made law at all boarding kennels to ensure this doesn't happen again. I wouldn't want any other family to go through what we have all had to go through knowing our beloved pets died in such horrendous circumstances."
