Charlie Watson, 19, was diagnosed with nodular malignant melanoma after a mole appeared on his abdomen last summer.
A Scots mum has issued a stark warning over the use of sun beds and the importance of SPF after her son was diagnosed with stage 4 skin cancer.
Recounting her son's devastating diagnosis, Charlie's mum, Amanda Woods, 41, told the Record: "It came as a shock to all of us. Charlie is a typical teenage lad and lives a very active lifestyle. The mum-of-three said: "I don't want to attribute Charlie's cancer to the use of sunbeds and sun exposure, but there is an awareness to be raised about it. The mole appeared after he came back from holiday and he had been using sunbeds frequently at the time.
Amanda said: "This mutation means that the cancer can basically just jump on his skin. The way they described it, is that it is basically like a dandelion clock. Being told this was horrifying, it has been like a never-ending nightmare." "I just kept asking them if there was anything else they could do, but there wasn't. It's devastating, up until now he has been a fit and healthy typical teenage lad."
