A 53-year-old woman was killed and her 23-year-old daughter injured after they were struck by a car in Westcliff, Essex on Thursday.

The crash happened shortly before 5.30pm on Thursday at the junction of Hamlet Court Road and St John’s Road in Westcliff. The woman and the 23-year-old daughter were taken to hospital but sadly the mother died.
The driver of a black Suzuki Splash was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. The woman, aged 31, was taken into custody for questioning. The mother’s family are being supported by specialist officers. Police are appealing for any witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage of the accident to get in touch. Anyone with information can make a report online or use Essex Police’s live chat service.
