Sara Cook, from Walton-le-Dale, worked in the hospitality industry since she was 14-years-old. Two years later, at 16, Sara left home and went backpacking across the world, managing to complete everything on her bucket list at 26.
However, in 2012, Sara had to give up her career in hospitality due to ill-health, living with the hereditary condition of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, which causes chronic pain. Her health only got worse when she was pregnant with her first child Louis, 15, after suffering with pelvic problems that cause major damage and affected her mobility.
For her, the mum has been able to save £3,275 a year using her tips, but has written the book to stand the test of time, meaning the tips will be invaluable in the future too. Surviving Being Skint is packed full of tips and tricks, including how to produce your own food and the importance of food larders.How to plan a menu One chapter in the book is titled 'How to Plan a Menu' and is designed a menu plan and not a nutritional guide.
How to find cheap groceries Another chapter in the book explains where you can find your shopping for the cheapest price explaining that cheaper brands are often better and it's unnecessary to pay extra for a brand name. She also states the importance of freezing items of food that won't be eaten straight away.
She calls them an "all round win" as you never know what you will get, allowing you to be creative and ensuring that companies are fighting food waste.
