She thought it was just a run-of-the-mill thing
A mother has shared a warning after her 18-month-old son contracted Strep A in 2016, in the hopes of helping worried parents recognise the symptoms.
"The time it gave me concern was the day after, we had put him down to bed the night before with Calpol and a few more spots, again, exactly like chicken pox, appeared on his legs. When he woke the following morning and I went to change his nappy, I still believed it was chicken pox as it had spread all over his legs, they were still blisters.
"We were very concerned about this as there was a chance if he was any worse, he would have to be admitted. He ran a high risk of it developing into sepsis, but he told us what to watch for and that it could happen very quickly - this became a shock as we knew how serious that could be. "The doctors told us the common things to look out for, but that it does display differently in different people," Carley added. "For Joseph he looked as though he was burnt on his legs, like he had been left in the sun without protection, in addition to the swelling.
