Kimberly Darroch lost her daughter, Milly Main, after she picked up an infection whilst receiving treatment for at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital leukemia
The mother of a young girl who tragically died has slammed the Scottish Government for voting down a new law in her memory.
Darroch said: "The vote in parliament was really disappointing. I really believed this time it would be passed, and I don’t understand why it was voted against.“Thank you to Anas and all those MSPs who campaigned for the families affected.”Andrew, a civil servant who worked with Nicola Sturgeon during the pandemic, died after catching Covid while having cancer treatment in the same hospital in 2020.
Scottish Labour deputy leader Jackie Baillie said: "After years of fighting for justice for her daughter, I have nothing but sympathy for Ms Darroch after this disappointing decision from the Scottish Government. The proposal for Milly's law included placing a duty on the new Commissioner to advocate for families affected by a major healthcare incident.
Public health minister Jenni Minto said last week the new Commissioner would “go a considerable way to making health care safer for us all”. A Scottish Government spokesperson said: "No family should see loved ones harmed while in the care of the healthcare system, and we again offer our deepest condolences to Milly’s family.
