Muscle Shoals officials announced a massive, $65 million investment in local sports facilities on Monday.
On top of bringing updated baseball fields, basketball courts, soccer fields, and other sports facilities, city leaders say they’re also building a 1,000-seat amphitheater and space for several retailers. Muscle Shoals mayor Mike Lockhart said the $65 million needed to build the complex will come from a bond based off of retail revenue.Lockhart says the amphitheater will bring much-needed event space to the city. There is nothing in Muscle Shoals that can hold 1,000 people, and this will do that.
“There’s some things that we’re going to do and I know we’ve already talked with even some of the universities for utilization of the facilities for certain things,” Lockhart said. “I think it will be a community, Shoals area property that everyone will be able to benefit from.”Watch the latest WAFF 48 news, sports & weather videos on our YouTube channel!
