Rudy “Tee” Gonzales , a pioneering Chicano rocker who helped develop the West Side Sound that emerged in the 1950s and 60s in San Antonio and became popular throughout the region, has died. He was 84. Gonzales was the legendary frontman of Rudy Tee & the Reno Bops , who recorded numerous hits in English and Spanish , including “ All I Could Do Was Cry ,” “ Talk About Soul ,” “Just an Illusion” and “ El Twist .” Their music spanned various genres, including conjunto, rock, R&B, Tejano and country.
