Elon Musk criticized the UK government's decision not to launch an inquiry into child sexual exploitation in Oldham, calling for Parliament's dissolution. Despite Musk's condemnation and calls for him to focus on US matters, Oldham Council reaffirmed its commitment to a local inquiry.

A Greater Manchester MP and government minister has called on Elon Musk to focus on the United States - as Oldham's council leader reaffirmed her commitment to a new inquiry on child sexual abuse. The world's richest man waded in on a row surrounding a Home Office decision not to launch an inquiry into child sexual exploitation in the town.

But despite the escalating row - and government minister Andrew Gwynne telling Mr Musk to 'focus on matters in the US' - Oldham Council has already committed to a local inquiry on child sexual exploitation, following a vote in July. "Since October, when the government confirmed we should carry out a local inquiry, we have been working on setting up that independent inquiry. That work has included liaising with Oldham survivors and Telford Council which conducted a similar inquiry."

'Elon Musk should focus on US' Health minister Andrew Gwynne, Labour MP for Gorton and Denton, has promised that his party will take the issue of child sexual exploitation seriously - with the Government considering the previous report's recommendations. “But look, the grooming issue is a very serious issue. We’ve already had inquiries into Telford, into Rotherham, we’ve had a local inquiry commissioned by Andy Burnham, the mayor of Greater Manchester, into the situation here in Greater Manchester which includes Oldham. We’ve had the national child sexual exploitation inquiry in 2022 which the Government is seriously considering, there is a long list of recommendations that was made.
