Miqdaad Versi, spokesperson for the Muslim Council of Britain, accused the Conservative Party of having a strategy that seeks to ‘ignore the issue until it goes away’. He told Metro.co.uk that the latest cases showed just how ‘expansive Islamophobia’ is in the Conservative Party, with incidents emerging on a ‘daily basis’, which had a ‘very negative impact on Muslim communities’.Citing a report by the Hope Not Hate campaign group he said: ‘Just under half of Conservative voters believe Islam is a threat to the British way of life’.
Referring to the Boris Johnson fan group, a Conservative party spokesperson said: ‘This Facebook group is in no way affiliated to the Conservative Party. ‘If we find evidence of a party member posting offensive or inappropriate material, we consistently take immediate action.’
