The prospect of something other than a meal deal or Greggs is always of interest
I am probably one of the worst people at prepping lunch before I go to work. No matter how much I moan about supermarket meal deals, I still find myself stuck in a cycle of buying the same old sandwiches and making the same daily complaints.
Alerta opened four weeks ago in the West Tower, offering a new coffee and lunch spot for some of the city centre's office workers. People can visit for their morning coffee, evening pint or both, as Alerta serves a selection of hot, cold and alcoholic drinks throughout the day. This includes wines, as well as Madri, Kronenbourg 1664, Heineken 0% and Aspall Cyder.View gallery There's a variety of breakfast brioches, pastries and light bites such as olives and hummus.
Despite being tempted by the huge pastries, I went kept it simple and went for an egg and cheese brioche roll and a flat white. My partner went for a ham and cheese croissant and a black americano, which came to a total of £19.30. I personally wouldn't fancy paying that every day, but it felt reasonable for an end-of-week treat.
I didn't blame them at all as the food smelled delicious, and fortunately it tasted even better. The egg was seasoned well and the cheese had a strong taste, but not strong enough to overpower the sandwich. The brioche bun was a nice level of sweet that worked really well with the savoury flavours.
