There’s a world where these friends could have articulated their jealousy, if only to themselves at first, and instead of responding to your news with a knee-jerk negative response, seen the emotion it brought up in them as a signal to talk to you properly. It might have been a tricky conversation, but it might also have been an inspiring and important one for them, offering a kind of clarity, solace.
