Jaxon, from Carlisle, Cumbria, immediately began chemotherapy and was warned he would likely need a liver transplant. His mother, Hayley Barnes, 33, an after-school club assistant, said: 'When he rang the bell to declare he was cancer-free it felt amazing because we were told at one point that he would never do that.'So to be in that position to see him ring the bell was amazing.'
Symptoms depend on the size of the tumor and can include a swollen abdomen, abdominal pain, jaundice skin, fever, nausea and vomiting. Studies have shown it to be an effective treatment for hepatoblastoma, with five and ten year survival rates of up to 60 per cent.
