Arsenal left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly will play against Manchester City after the FA overturned his red card for violent conduct. The decision came after an independent Regulatory Commission ruled in favor of Lewis-Skelly's claim of wrongful dismissal, lifting his three-match suspension.
Myles Lewis-Skelly will be available to play for Arsenal against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon (4.30pm) after his red card for violent conduct was overturned. The left-back was controversially sent off against Wolves on Saturday afternoon by referee Michael Oliver. However, he will now be eligible to face City following the Football Association's (FA) decision to overturn his red card .
An independent Regulatory Commission has ruled in favor of Lewis-Skelly's claim of wrongful dismissal and lifted his three-match suspension. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had hinted in his post-match press conference on Saturday that the Gunners would appeal Lewis-Skelly's dismissal if the FA did not retrospectively overturn it. 'Hopefully, we don't need to,' Arteta said. 'If we have to, it's a really good precedent with what happened with Bruno this season. Hopefully. We were in a position we shouldn't have been in, at least let's be in a position that we should be in for the next few weeks and allow our player to continue to do his job.' When asked for his overall thoughts on the sending-off, he replied: 'I think it's that obvious that we don't need any comments today. Hopefully, the right thing will happen after today.' Lewis-Skelly would have missed domestic fixtures against Manchester City, Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, and Leicester City had the FA not overturned the red card. Pep Guardiola's squad will be aiming for their third consecutive Premier League victory when they face Arsenal after beating Ipswich Town 6-0 and securing a 3-1 win against Chelsea on Saturday evening. City will next be in action at home to Club Brugge before that on Wednesday night (8pm) as they strive to avoid elimination from the Champions League. Manchester City secured the 2023/24 Premier League title for the fourth consecutive season but fell short of another Treble with defeats in the FA Cup final and Champions League quarter-finals. Now, the focus shifts to the transfer window for Pep Guardiola and his team.
