The man was accused of firing a gun from a vehicle and hitting two people associated with the university, police said.

near Rutgers University and injuring two people associated with the university in early April, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and possession of a gun Wednesday, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and New Brunswick police Chief Vincent Sabo announced.

The victims were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where they were treated for their injuries, according to police. The man was released days after the shooting while the woman remained hospitalized in April, authorities said. Farmer was originally charged with two counts of second-degree attempted murder, one count of second-degree aggravated assault and weapons offenses.

Farmer’s defense attorney Patrick C. O’Hara Jr. said video evidence from the scene appeared to show two groups of individuals in an argument that escalated to a skirmish, which lead to riot charges.
