'Thank you, Taraji, for standing up for all of us,' she told Taraji, who was seated in the audience at Saturday's show and later won Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Motion Picture. Last but not least, Latifah showed off her curves in brown tuxedo-style dress that cinched in her waist.Latifah received a quick birthday tribute from the audience during the show - the actress slated to celebrate her 54th birthday on Monday, March 18th.
Latifah credited The Color Purple's Taraji P. Henson for bringing the issue to light when she claimed in a tearful interview last year that she was 'tired of working so hard' only to make less than her white co-stars Other nominees in the category included Halle Bailey, Keke Palmer, Colman Domingo and also Fantasia Barrino.

Earlier in the evening, the CEO of the NAACP, Derrick Johnson, then took to the stage to present the President's Award to Usher. Colman Domingo also won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his role in The Color Purple - while also winning Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for Ruskin. However, the star was not in attendance during the ceremony.
The Color Purple's wins didn't end there, and the movie notably won the award for Outstanding Motion Picture towards the end of the ceremony as well Donnie Wahlberg took to the stage to introduce the group and said, 'In the early '80s, Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, Ralph and Johnny changed the fortunes of a city and the music industry forever'
Mpasi also was the recipient of Outstanding Breakthrough Performance in a Motion Picture while Blitz Bazawule from the film also garnered Outstanding Breakthrough Creative in a Motion Picture. Mike Epps was also the recipient of Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series - but was not in attendance at the 2024 NAACP Image Awards over the weekend.
