The Conservative MP accused the Prime Minister of 'whipping a public frenzy against her'
Nadine Dorries has finally resigned as an MP - more than two months after saying she would do. In her resignation letter the MP for Mid-Bedfordshire accused the Prime Minister of betraying Conservative principles and behaving irresponsibly.
Ms Dorries announced that she would be 'leaving her seat with immediate effect' in June but failed to do so until today. In a letter to Rishi Sunak she accused the PM of putting her personal safety at risk by 'whipping a public frenzy against her'. She also says police had visited her home last week to warn her about a threat to her security. Ms Dorries, 66, says she first informed Cabinet Secretary Simon Case of her intention to resign in July 2022.She added she has since been under sustained pressure from colleagues not to inflict a further damaging by-election on the party as it languishes in the polls.
In the letter, seen by Mail on Sunday, Ms Dorries writes: "What exactly has been done or have you achieved? You hold the office of Prime Minister unelected, without a single vote, not even from your own MPs. She also attacked his record in Government, saying: "Since you took office a year ago, the country is run by a zombie Parliament where nothing meaningful has happened. You have no mandate from the people and the Government is adrift.
