Former President Donald Trump has sued Stephanopoulos and ABC News after the anchor said in an interview with Mace that Trump had been found “liable for rape”
, who have accused Stephanopoulos and the network of defamation and tarnishing Trump’s reputation. On March 10, Stephanopoulos asked Mace why she chose to endorse Trump for president when the former president had been found “liable for rape,” a reference to Trump’s case against author E. Jean Carroll in which he was found liable for “sexual abuse” and not rape.
“And quite frankly, Republicans should boycott ABC News until George Stephanopoulos is held accountable for the egregious lies he purposely told on air on ABC News this week,” Mace said in a Tuesday interview with Newsmax. “I’m glad that Donald Trump is suing ABC News, and I hope he sues him for every single penny. Maybe $454 million sounds about right for that.
Alejandro Brito, Trump’s attorney, alleges in a 20-page complaint that Stephanopoulos made his claims that Trump was liable for rape “with actual malice or with a reckless disregard for the truth,” the report noted. Byron York, the chief political correspondent, was among Stephanopoulos’s critics over his interview with Mace, noting how the jury found Trump liable for “sexual abuse” instead of rape in the case with Carroll.
The dishonesty of Stephanopoulos' interview is striking. He says 10 times that Trump was found 'liable for rape' in the E Jean Carroll case. He says that the jury found Trump 'liable for rape.' In fact, the jury specifically found Trump *not* liable for rape. It found him liable…both during and after conducting her interview with the ABC News anchor, claiming during the interview that Stephanopoulos was attempting to shame her over her endorsement of Trump.
Trump and Mace have been on rocky terms in the past, though they seemed to have moved on from their differences, with the former president
