'I didn't like being the first in a lot of things. Barriers have to be broken. Challenges have to be met,' she tells Harper's Bazaar in a new August cover story.
Naomi Campbell has many firsts in fashion under her belt: She was the first Black woman to open a Prada show, the first on the cover of French Vogue, the first Black model on the cover of Time. But now that she is raising two children, including a little daughter, her biggest hope is that no other Black woman ever feels alone or unrepresented in a room again.“People think that you want to be the only one, but it’s not necessarily so,” Campbell tells Harper’s Bazaar in her new August cover story.
“I just wanted to do the best work that I could do. if I made a decision to be in this business, I would embrace it. I wanted to give it my best because my family definitely did not want me to do this.”She explains that despite being one of the most famous faces in fashion, she never earned as much money or as many advertising assignments as her white counterparts did.
