With the Artemis III mission planned for launch in 2026, the development of superior flame-resistant materials needs to be accelerated.

NASA has collaborated with a textile company to develop versatile flame-resistant fabric for spacesuits that will be worn by Artemis astronauts.

“Milliken views this project as an opportunity to support an American commitment to further space exploration, science and research that will positively impact future generations,” said David Smith, executive vice president at Milliken and president of Milliken’s Textile Business in the press release.in 1967 highlighted the urgent need for advanced fire-resistant materials.

Although these vehicles are very protective with thermal barriers and insulation, building fire-resistant astronaut clothing and personal equipment is equally important.
