Natalie Portman made a poignant message on the red carpet at this year’s Academy Awards as she sported a Dior cape embroidered with the names of every woman who wasn’t nominated at the ceremony.
The actress, who herself has won an Oscar, revealed she wanted to recognise women in a “subtle” way as she took to the red carpet in the outfit which featured names including Little Women director Greta Gerwig and director Lulu Wang. The 38-year-old wore a designer cape sewn with golden thread, with the names appearing on her outfit including Melina Matsoukas, director of Queen & Slim, Kasi Lemmons director of Harriet, Lorene Scafaria who directed Hustlers, Marielle Heller the director of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood and Alma Har'el, who directed Honey Boy.
Explaining her decision to wear the outfit, the actress said: “I wanted to recognise the women who were not recognised for their incredible work this year in a subtle way.
