EXCLUSIVE: Singer Natasha Hamilton shares unique name for 5th baby - in touching tribute to grandma
Glowing with health and full of energy, the Atomic Kitten star is taking pregnancy in her stride and isn’t fazed in the slightest about the impending birth. But then, this is Natasha’s fifth baby, so she knows the drill.
While this baby is Natasha’s fifth – she’s also mum to Josh, 20, Harry, 18, Alfie, 13, and eight-year-old Ella – it’s her first with her husband Charles Gay, 37, a fashion brand director. “I’m growing a human, so if I get a big bum, belly and stretch marks I’m honestly not worried,” she says. This pregnancy feels all the more precious to Natasha after an emotional struggle to conceive. After a year of trying, fertility tests showed her ovarian reserve was low, making her chances of a natural pregnancy extremely slim.“We’d been very blasé about getting married in the September and being pregnant by Christmas,” says Natasha.
“I felt bad for Charles because he didn’t have his own children and I really wanted to have that bond between us.”However, she did sign up to the Natural Cycles app and began tracking her temperature every morning, which created an algorithm telling her when she was fertile. Despite the hospital’s concerns, mainly around her age, Natasha hopes to have a home birth, just as she did with Ella.
Charles will be by Natasha’s side at the birth, along with her mum Maria. And if it happens at home, there is a possibility some of her children will be around too. “Because the kids all live between two houses, we have time to have a date night or just chill out together on the sofa,” she says. “It’s important to remember who you are as a couple.”
“We’re all very open and we make sure everyone feels involved. We are solid. We don’t use words like ‘step’ or ‘half’. We are a family, we are blood.” Having suffered with severe postnatal depression after having Ella, Natasha is aware of the importance of having help around her following the birth. She is chair of Milestone Mums, a peer support group for mothers with mental health issues, and is mindful of the warning signs.
Although work is on hold for the time being, Natasha plans to launch her solo career next year and has been working on new music with a team of producers.
