How the national media reacted to Liverpool's 3-1 victory over LASK in the Europa League
Liverpool began their Europa League campaign with a 3-1 victory over Austrian Bundesliga side LASK on Thursday night.
Shortly after drawing level, Jurgen Klopp summoned Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai from the bench along with Joe Gomez. And two minutes after those changes the Reds finally turned the game on its head as Diaz rounded off a sweeping Ryan Gravenberch cross before Salah applied the gloss on a fine night's work in Linz with a spectacular individual effort.
In the Guardian, Andy Hunter wrote: "Short but sweet would be Liverpool’s preference for their return to the Europa League and an assured start was made with victory over Lask in Austria. Another comeback was necessary but, that minor inconvenience aside, this was a performance that again demonstrated the options and quality available to Jürgen Klopp.
For BBC Sport, Emma Smith wrote: "Klopp indeed had to break the glass and bring on...three stars after an unimpressive early showing in which Liverpool were stunned by Flecker's opener. "They were otherwise held at arm's length by LASK in the opening 45, with Ibrahima Konate's booking for arguing with the referee shortly before the interval testament to the Reds' struggles."
"But Klopp’s side gradually began to impose themselves and were level on 56 minutes. After a strong burst into the box, Bajcetic cut the ball back from the byline to Diaz, who was taken out by Philipp Ziereis as he attempted to shoot. Nunez made no mistake from the resultant penalty.
