Gill White is participating in NatWest's baton relay in memory of her dad who suffered from dementia
As the 2024 Olympics approaches, members of Team GB are gearing up to fulfil long-held dreams of competing in the world’s oldest and most prominent multi-sport event.
Entitled the Team GB Baton Relay, by its conclusion later this month, almost 300 colleagues will have taken part in the 1,000 mile trek - whether cycling, running, rowing or other - with all of them fundraising for a charity with personal significance to them or the areas in which they live or work. This desire led her to take up rowing on the nearby River Wye, with the help and support of a local rowing club.
“I went to swimming lessons to build up my confidence and joined a rowing club, undertaking a ‘Learn to Row’ course in June 2023. I’ve since learned to scull and sweep oar, and competed in a couple of regattas as part of a crew. I’ve met some amazing people through the club and made many new friends.”
Gill's passion for rowing has spread further afield, with members of her family now also getting in on the action.
