Rwandan-born Ncuti Gatwa, 30, will take over from David Tennant and become the 15th Doctor during episodes to air on the BBC later this year.
Ncuti Gatwa has been spotted filming new Doctor Who scenes in a kilt, paying homage to the actor's Scottish roots.
A fan account sharing updates from the Doctor Who set has uploaded a photo to X, formerly Twitter, showing Ncuti in character wearing a kilt. He can be seen posing in a black leather jacket, yellow top and tartan kilt. He was a toddler when he and his family moved from Rwanda, while he and his family lived in his father’s university accommodation while he studied a PhD in philosophy and theology.
Before starting secondary school in Dunfermline, his classmates set up a racist Facebook page about him. He added: “It didn’t really bother me that much because I knew. I was like, you can’t know me and not like me."
