Latest Everton transfer and takeover news, including updates as Asmir Begovic is in talks to return to the Blues

Everton are closing on what would be a sixth signing of the summer with the club engaged in talks with re-signing Asmir Begovic. The 37-year-old is a free agent having spent last season with Championship side QPR - the club he joined after his two-year stint at Goodison Park ended.

Any deal would come with the spotlight firmly elsewhere in the squad, however, with a crisis at right-back having emerged. Ashley Young's straight red card rules him out of the trip to Tottenham Hotspur while other senior options Seamus Coleman, Nathan Patterson and James Garner are unlikely to be available due to injuries.

“I accept that there will continue to be conjecture about the potential investment or a takeover, as well as other matters, but it is important that our supporters are not consumed by every piece of speculation – and in many instances misinformation, which may be out there. The Blues will be in action in Round Two of the tournament. The two teams played at the same stage last season, with goals from Beto and Arnaut Danjuma helping them to a 2-1 win.For Everton defender Alan Stubbs believes the Blues need to do what they can to keep Jarrad Branthwaite at the club this summer, but believes a sale of Dominic Calvert-Lewin should be considered.

Everton manager Sean Dyche speaks to fourth official Darren Bond during his side's 3-0 home defeat to Brighton & Hove AlbionEverton manager Sean Dyche fears that players’ welfare is at stake.

“Ordinarily, If there’s an additional nine minutes and it’s 0-0 or an exciting game, of course we all get it, we want as much value out of the game as we can, supporters, managers, whatever. Hurzeler, who at 31 is the first Premier League manager to be younger than the competition itself, said:
