School uniform costs are soaring – here's how parents are saving themselves some cash
Nearly half of UK parents will buy secondhand uniform for their child or children in time for the new school year in September. In a bid to save money on this costly purchase, 45% of households are opting for pre-loved uniform instead – far more than in recent years. Local councils have the power to provide parents with grants – known as the School Uniform grant – to help them buy skirts, trousers and more under the Education Act 1990.
