The National Economic and Development Authority Board led by President Ferdinand Marcos approved last Tuesday changes in two major flood control projects in Luzon to take into consideration the extreme weather caused by climate change.
“I think maybe the detailed engineering had to compensate for weather changes. And then the housing, that was not included in the original estimate,” Marcos said during the latest NEDA Board meeting held in Malacañang last Tuesday. The CIARMP, which is expected to mitigate flood damage in the lower reach of San Juan River Basin and its adjacent Maalimango Creek Drainage Area in Cavite, started on October 2019 and finished in April 2024. It is now scheduled to be completed in September 2029. To improve the design of the PMRCIPP 4, the NEDA Board also approved to increase its total project cost by 74.32 percent from P33,097.58 billion to P57,696.87 million.
