Heather Ingram said she needed 'the devil cutting out of her'
A woman who stabbed her neighbour and told police she needed 'the devil cutting out of her' has been detained under the Mental Health Act.
"It was a perfectly friendly, neighbourly relationship in which they cared and supported each other," the Honorary Recorder of Preston, Judge Robert Altham, said. He told her to go home for a dressing gown, or borrow one from him, but Ms Ingram lunged at him with the knife causing him a chest injury. She then went down the corridor towards her own flat as the neighbour called emergency services.
Preston Crown Court heard Ms Ingram has diagnoses of schizophrenia and emotionally unstable personality disorder and has been sectioned on two previous occasions. Judge Altham requested psychiatric reports and said: "I am satisfied you are suffering a schizoaffective disorder which makes it appropriate for you to be detained in hospital for medical treatment."
