It's cakes and drinks for now with the full food menu launching next year
A tiny bakery that won over fans with its tasty homemade sandwiches and cakes has move to bigger premises - and in future the owners will be able to offer so much more. Boulangerie de Saigon, a Vietnamese café, opened in one of the avenues at Sneinton Market in April 2023.
Matcha lovers will find a range of flavours such as blueberry, strawberry and white hot chocolate. Cakes, baked by Milly, are displayed at the counter. Matcha Basque cheesecake, key lime meringue pie and Black Forest Yule log are among them plus a cranberry tart, topped with a beautifully iced holly wreath decoration
Aivi, who studied fashion at Nottingham Trent University, turned her back on a career in the industry, when cooking became her first love. She said: "We wanted to expand and to have a larger kitchen which allows us to create more dishes. The previous space was quite small and it limited what we could do.
Milly is also responsible for the artwork on the walls, where the flowers are favourites of Aivi, their mum and grandmother, with other drawings of typical Vietnamese household items including fish sauce and a medical balm for grazes. The cafe has a strong family ethos. The sisters' cousin Kimberley Tran is working there, while the biggest source of inspiration was their grandmother Ken Nguyen, who had a hugely popular street food stall in Vietnam.
