Former Labour leader branded former US president 'not only crazy, but nasty'

Exclusivehas launched a blistering attack on Donald Trump, claiming an already dangerous world would be “seriously in jeopardy” if the former president returns to the White House. He made the remarks as he discussed his hope that Joe Biden would be re-elected in November.

“Now, I just hope that there is enough maturity and wisdom amongst leaderships to ensure that we don’t slip either by design or accident.” Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy has been meeting senior figures from both Republican and Democratic parties, with one Trump ally calling him “far preferable to David Cameron”.

Kinnock said the uncertainty a Trump presidency would create could exacerbate existing tensions, as Russian President Vladimir Putin continues to threaten the use of nuclear weapons if the West continues to support Ukraine.“Whether Trump turns out to be an appeaser of Putin, and a dealmaker with the Chinese, or he resorts to aggression – we don’t know, and that’s the whole point.

While Trump is largely blamed for initially delaying a $60bn military package to Ukraine being voted on in the US Congress after claiming America should not spend money supporting Kyiv, his view apparently softened and the lethal aid was approved last month.
