Lennon returned home from Romania on Saturday for a 'family emergency'
Lennon, who took over at the Romanian club back in May, returned home on Saturday for a "family emergency". In a statement on the club website yesterday Rapid said Lennon's mother was in a "very serious condition" after spending the past few weeks in hospital.
The statement read: "Neil Lennon had to return to Ireland due to a family emergency. His mother is in a very serious condition, after a period of several weeks in the hospital. Last night he suffered his second heart attack, and the next 48 hours are going to be critical. The family called Neil home so they could get through this difficult time together.
"The health of those close to us is always important, that's why we are with our coach and we are waiting for him to come back with good news so that we can be present on the bench for Monday's game. We stick together, especially in difficult times, and keep our trust." Unfortunately in a further update on Sunday the club confirmed Lennon's mother had passed away. "Our coach's mother passed away this morning. Condolences to the Lennon family! We are with our coach in these difficult moments," a statement read.
