Garry Redford, 37, was sentenced today at Carlisle Crown Court
A 'nervous' M6 driver who was stopped by police for having an issue with one of his brake lights was found to have nearly 2kg of cocaine in his car.
Garry Redford, 37, of South Cross Street, Bury was jailed for four years eight months for possession with intent to supply and possessing criminal property today at Carlisle Crown Court. Redford was stopped on the M6 in September last year when officers noticed his vehicle in poor condition and with a defective central brake light. Officers conducted a stop check on the vehicle and then conducted a search under Section 23 misuse of drugs act due to Redford's demeanour in the police car.Officers located several bundles of cash totalling £4,300 and two large blocks of white powder believed to be Cocaine which was later tested and confirmed weighing nearly 2kg.
Detective Constable Elinor Murray said: “We proactively work to identify and challenge anyone suspected of being involved in drug supply in the county. Redford’s demeanour in the back of the police vehicle once stopped by officers suggested he was nervous. “He also couldn’t provide specific details on where he had been in Carlisle, resulting in officers conducting a search of the vehicle locating the cash and Cocaine. Our message to offenders is that we will be swift in going after those who harm our communities by committing crime.
