Netflix crime thriller Missing You has proven to be a massive success, racking up 36,900,000 views and counting since the start of the year. Missing You, the latest Harlan Coben adaptation starring Richard Armitage, arrived on the streaming platform.
Based on the 2014 novel of the same name, the show follows Detective Kat Donovan (played by Rosalind Eleazar, known for her role in Slow Horses), whose life takes a dramatic turn when she encounters her ex-fiance Josh on a dating app – someone who mysteriously vanished 11 years ago. Richard, 53, stars as DCI Ellis Stagger, a mentor to Kat and a close friend to her late father who was murdered years before. The series boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Ashley Walters, Steve Pemberton, and Sir Lenny Henry, as well as a surprising cameo from Matt Willis of Busted and I'm A Celeb's GK Barry. As expected, the series is packed with twists and turns, a hallmark of Harlan Coben thrillers, which have proven incredibly addictive for Netflix viewers. The Netflix series delves into the mystery surrounding Detective Kat's missing ex-fiance and her murdered father. In its first week alone, Missing You landed 21.7 million views, followed by 15.2 million in week two, and these numbers are only projected to climb in the coming weeks. Speaking about the 'insatiable appetite' for thrillers, The Hobbit star told Virgin Radio: 'I think it's why I've returned to do four Harlan Coben thrillers for Netflix because what he's doing in his drama, in his books and the adaptations, is he's got his finger on the pulse of something very current.'While fans have eagerly binged the six-episode series, there have been some discussions online regarding the 'unsatisfying ending' and 'plot holes'. However, ultimately, viewers will have to decide for themselves. A four-star review in The Metro reads: 'Missing You is not the best TV, sure, but not everything on our screens has to be high-art. What the show does offer is sheer entertainment value with gripping twists and a pacey plot.' The impressive viewership for Missing You follows a huge success for Fool Me Once last year. The Harlan Coben series featuring Dame Joanna Lumley and Michelle Keegan garnered a total of 98.2 million views, making it the most-watched English-language debut series globally in 2024. As of now, it holds the eighth most popular show of all time, surpassed only by series like Bridgerton, Wednesday, and Stranger Things. Missing You's success comes after Fool Me Once achieved impressive viewership figures in 2024. There is set to be a tenth Coben adaptation, Run Away, written by Danny Brocklehurst.A synopsis for the upcoming show reads: 'Simon had the perfect life: loving wife and kids, great job, beautiful home. But then his eldest daughter Paige ran away and everything fell apart. 'So now when he finds her, vulnerable and strung out on drugs in a city park, he finally has the chance to bring his little girl home. But it turns out she’s not alone and an argument escalates into shocking violence that will shatter Simon’s life all over again. 'His search for his daughter will take him into a dangerous underworld, revealing deep secrets that could tear his family apart forever.' Missing You is available to stream on Netflix. There is currently no release date for Run Away
