The Sandman: Netflix's new drama starring Blackpool actors Jenna Coleman and David Thewlis
Netflix's highly anticipated The Sandman is set to air on Friday . Starring the likes of Tom Sturridge and Jenna Coleman, the story is an adaptation of the hit Neil Gaiman graphic novel series of the same name.
Jenna Coleman, from Blackpool, who is known for starring in Victoria and Doctor Who, is set to play Johanna Constantine. Coleman plays two versions of the character: the eighteenth century ancestor Lady Johanna Constantine and her present day descendant. A fan tweeted: "Not a complaint, because I am looking forward to Jenna Coleman's performance, but could you not get John Constantine because of CW and HBO?" To which Neil replied: "The rights situation with John is certainly circumscribed right now. But the plan to have Lady Johanna and Joanna be in the story and played by the same person was there from the start. It seemed tidier. So it worked out.
Another Blackpool-born actor, David Thewlis, is set to feature in the new series. David will be playing Dr. John Dee, Cripps's son whose endeavour to find "truth" jeopardizes the world. Gaiman described Dee as a character "who could break your heart and keep your sympathy while taking you into the darkest places."
