Summary Netflix is set to develop an adaptation of the book Never Lie, with a big name industry talent attached. Never Lie is a 2022 novel by Freida McFadden about the mysterious case of a psychiatrist who went missing without a trace. Never Lie has become extremely popular on BookTok, the literature-loving side of TikTok. McFadden's novels overall have become popular in the last few years, with other titles including The Housemaid, The Teacher, and The Housemaid is Watching.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, McFadden's Never Lie will now be adapted into a Netflix movie of the same name. The movie will be produced by Shawn Levy's banner 21 Laps Entertainment. Levy will serve as a producer on the film alongside producing partners Dan Levine and Dan Cohen. Never Lie will be part of a first-look feature deal between 21 Laps and Netflix. Details on the casting and release date for the project remain under wraps.
Shawn Levy Has A Busy Upcoming Slate Never Lie will be the next film in the deal between 21 Laps and Netflix, who previously collaborated on All the Light We Cannot See, a miniseries adaptation that Levy directed. All the Light We Cannot See's reviews were abysmal among critics, who collectively awarded the film just a 27% on Rotten Tomatoes. Even with this low score, the 21 Laps deal with Netflix has continued.
Never Lie's announcement directly follows the release of Levy's filmDeadpool & Wolverine, which was released to theaters this past weekend. Deadpool & Wolverine can already be considered a massive success, grossing $211 million during its opening weekend. This massive haul gives the MCU film the record for the highest-grossing opening for an R-rated movie as well as the biggest July weekend for any film domestically.
In addition to producing Never Lie, Levy has a fairly busy slate coming up post-Deadpool & Wolverine. Most prominently, Levy's upcoming projects include Stranger Things season 5, which is also a project with Netflix. Levy is also developing numerous films, including How to Talk to Girls, Boy Band, Father Figure, a Star Wars film, and a sequel to Free Guy.
