It will be the third housing development on the eastern fringe of the town in the last ten years
Elected members at the Ards and North Down Borough Council Planning Committee this week approved a residential development comprising 188 houses in the eastern edge of the town, north of Movilla Road.
The council planning report states: “The site is affected by ongoing NI Water infrastructure capacity issues in the area. To prevent any environmental harm arising, the agreement will place a restriction on development of these lands to ensure requisite agreement with NI Water permitting connection to its infrastructure is provided at the appropriate stage.”
“Planting is proposed throughout the site and along site boundaries to soften the visual impact of the development and assist integration. Proposed extra heavy tree planting will line both sides of the distributor road and will contribute to an attractive street scene." Other issues raised refer to safety problems with the proposed SUDS pond, flood risk, the position of new trees and their impact on views, the loss of hedges and its impact on wildlife, and some questioned the need for a new school, which is also part of the Rivenwood project.
