New Alabama law will find any drug dealer who knowingly sells fentanyl guilty of manslaughter
) - A new billed that was signed into Alabama law charges anyone who knowingly sells fentanyl with manslaughter.
“The drug dealers are vicious, vicious, nasty people,” Pringle said. “My bill simply says if you sell a controlled substance and you are not a doctor, or a pharmacist, and you are not legally able to sell controlled substances, and you cause somebody’s death, we can charge you with manslaughter.” Lori Myles, public affairs director for the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, lost her son in 2022 to a fentanyl overdose. She believes this bill is a big step for the state.
“What this is doing is this is going to put the dealers of death on notice that if as drug dealers, they sell any kind of fentanyl, they can be charged to the fullest extent of the law,” Guy said. “They’re not using guns, they’re not using knives, they’re using fentanyl.”
