New dorms, kitchens and more were highlighted to incoming freshmen at UAF during the first day of orientation

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The first day of orientation for new students at the University of Alaska Fairbanks came with many moving into their newly renovated dormitories.

Leading up to the fall semester, UAF conducted a significant renovation to Moore and Bartlett Halls located in the multi-complex structure known as MBS. This construction took many months, requiring freshmen to be housed in dorm buildings meant for upper classmen during the 2023-2024 school year.

One of the incoming freshmen was skeptical when he first saw photos of the room online but his doubts have been diminished. “I remember the pictures had only like one desk over by the window over there and I was like I’m going to have to be fighting my roommate for the desk,” said Grayson Lamp, a freshmen that moved to Fairbanks from Renton, a suburb of Seattle. He also said the beds looked small and that he was concerned about rolling off the mattress and onto the floor.
