The aim is to provide for people who have little local produce in their area

A new app is being created by local students to help people in Belfast with limited access to buy fresh farm food at affordable prices.

These markets would offer locally sourced fruits, vegetables, and other sustainable food products at affordable prices. Residents can log onto an app to find out what producers will be in their area at any given time and what produce they will be bringing with them. A council report states: “The Belfast Learning Festival is part of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities. As part of the festival, the climate team agreed to hold a hackathon that would explore the current food systems in the city.

At the Climate and City Resilience Committee, Liam Mowbray told elected representatives: “This app will serve as a platform for local farmers and producers to communicate directly with consumers in Belfast.” Join our Belfast Live breaking news service on WhatsApp Click this link or scan the QR code to receive breaking news and top stories from Belfast Live.
