Hundreds of thousands of Australians are being hit with more hip pocket pain as major energy providers pass on new double and triple-digit price hikes. 7NEWS

Victorian customers are among the worst affected with average AGL usage tariffs increasing by 24.9 per cent on variable rates, while EnergyAustralia’s average hike is 26.7 per cent or about $480 a year.

An AGL spokesperson said the change was based on wholesale prices, network charges and market conditions and the value AGL offers to customers.
