These cops are most likely to be based in schools with higher numbers of black pupils, and there were plans to expand the number of Safer Schools Officers by an additional 7%.CONCERNED: Dr Remi Joseph-Salisbury of Manchester University “This is deeply concerning given the mounting evidence showing that police in schools have a negative impact on school environments, feeding the stigmatisation of schools, creating a culture of low expectations, and risking the escalation of minor disciplinary issues into criminal justice issues, particularly for those from minoritised backgrounds.
Campaigners believe SSOs are counter-productive as they fail to reduce youth violence and damage community relations.
