The UK Government's £400 Energy Bills Support Scheme helped millions of households during last winter.
More than 9,380 people have signed an online petition calling on the UK Government to bring back the £400 Energy Bills Support Scheme for winter 2023/24 to help households through the colder months during the ongoing cost of living crisis. At 10,000 signatures, the UK Government will provide an official response to the proposal.
But it’s important to remember the cap simply limits the amount a supplier can charge per unit of gas or electricity they sell, which means if you use more, you’ll pay more, similarly, use less and you will pay less. However, even if you never used any gas or electricity, the standing charges alone amount to £303 each year.
The ‘Reintroduce the Energy Bills Support Scheme for winter 2023/24 ’ petition has been posted on the official petitions-parliament website and states: “Although energy prices are decreasing, they still remain well above normal levels. I believe the best course of action the UK Government can take is to reintroduce the Energy Bills Support Scheme for winter 2023/24 which was a massive help for households earlier this year.
“I strongly believe the best way of funding this important scheme would be another windfall tax on the profits of energy companies.”Top Money Stories Today Earlier this year, the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero responded to another of Mr Conway’s petitions where he called on the UK Government to introduce an unmetered monthly tariff for energy for the elderly and disabled.
